In the face of Britain\u2019s colonial ambitions in Palestine\u2014most notably its endorsement of the <strong data-start=\"439\" data-end=\"462\">Balfour Declaration<\/strong>\u2014Palestinians began to mobilize politically and socially to defend their national rights.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"918\">This mobilization first took shape in <strong data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"601\">1918<\/strong> with the establishment of a <strong data-start=\"630\" data-end=\"685\">nationwide network of Muslim-Christian Associations<\/strong>, which laid the groundwork for a unified national front. These associations soon spearheaded the holding of <strong data-start=\"794\" data-end=\"845\">seven national congresses between 1919 and 1928<\/strong>, each serving as a representative platform for the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"1329\">The congresses articulated the Palestinian rejection of the Zionist project and the British Mandate\u2019s policies, while affirming the Palestinians\u2019 demand for independence and self-determination.
