Located to the southwest of the city of Jerusalem, the village stands at an elevation of 350 meters above sea level. Within the village are the remains of an Arab Latin monastery built by the Salesian Fathers in 1881. The site includes a church, an agricultural school, and burial grounds. It is believed that the church was constructed on the ruins of an older church dating back to the 5th century AD, with its floor paved in mosaic.
The total land area of Beit Jimal amounts to 4,878 dunums. In 1922, the population was estimated at approximately 59 residents, both Muslims and Christians. By 1945, the population had risen to around 240, but by 1967, it had declined to 28 residents.
The village is surrounded by a number of neighboring villages: Deir Aban to the north, along with Al-Bureij and Zakariya to the west, and Beit Nattif to the south and east. Additionally, the area includes several archaeological sites and ruins. To the south of the village lies the settlement of Beit Shemesh, which was established in 1950.
