al-Mansura
March 2, 2024The village was built on uneven ground that gently slopes toward the south. It was located at the northern edge of the Hula Plain, near a road extending between al-Khalisa and the Syrian town of Banias. The archaeological site known as Tel al-Batikh lay approximately 800 meters west of the village. The large quantity of scattered pottery shards on its lands indicated its ancient origins. Al-Manshiyya was classified as a farm in the Indexed Geographical Dictionary of Palestine compiled during the Mandate period.
Occupation and Ethnic Cleansing
Al-Manshiyya, like other villages in the Safad district, fell as a result of psychological warfare campaigns and direct military assaults carried out during Operation Yiftach. Its inhabitants fled on May 24, 1948, just before the conclusion of the operation.
The Village Today
No remains of the village landmarks are left. The site is now predominantly covered with grass and some eucalyptus trees. The surrounding lands are cultivated by the residents of the settlements Beit Hillel and Hagushrim for cotton farming.
Zionist Settlements on Village Lands
The settlement of Beit Hillel (206290) was established in 1940 about one kilometer south of Al-Manshiyya on lands belonging to the neighboring village of Al-Zouq al-Tahtani. The settlement of Hagushrim (208291) was founded in 1948 approximately two kilometers east, but not on Al-Manshiyya’s lands.
