Kibbutz Beit Ha’Rafa (Gesher Haziv)
July 14, 2025
Hosen Colony
July 14, 2025Sa’ar is a kibbutz located in the Western Galilee in occupied Palestine, near the settlement of Nahariya. The kibbutz was established in August 1948, just south of the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Zeeb, by members of the Zionist socialist youth movement Hashomer Hatzair and Holocaust survivors. Archaeological evidence indicates human settlement at the site dating back to the 18th century BCE.
In August 2006, many residents of the kibbutz fled following heavy rocket fire from Hezbollah, with up to 60 rockets launched daily. A kibbutz member, David Lelchook, was killed by shrapnel from a rocket that struck the front yard of his home.
As of 2021, the population of the colony was 910 settlers.
