July 14, 2025Atzmon, formerly known as Segev, is a settlement located in Gush Segev in the Galilee. The settlement was originally established in 1953 under the name Segev, on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of Ma’ar, whose inhabitants were displaced in 1948. The settlement of Atzmon/Segev was constructed to the east of the original village site.
The initiative to establish working villages like Segev was led by the Jewish National Fund in order to provide housing and employment for the large influx of new Zionist immigrants.
The Segev settlement was officially founded in 1957. In its early years, residents were employed in road construction and forestry, including the planting of the Segev Forest, which today spans both sides of Highway 805 from Yavor Junction to the Misgav Regional Center.
The Misgav Regional High School, which serves students from various communities in the Misgav area, is located in Atzmon.
As of 2022, the population of the settlement was 1,228 settlers.
