Kibbutz Ehiad
July 14, 2025Yasur is a kibbutz located in the Western Galilee, east of Acre (Akka), in the northern part of the occupied Palestinian territories. It was established on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Birwa, and its settlers cultivate agricultural lands that belonged to the depopulated villages of al-Damun and al-Ruways.
The kibbutz was founded in 1949 by Zionist immigrants from Hungary, who were members of the Hashomer Hatzair socialist Zionist youth movement. In 1951, a group of immigrants from England joined them, followed by another group from Brazil in 1956.
The kibbutz’s economy was initially based on two factories: one for textiles and another for dolls. However, neither proved profitable, and both were eventually closed. A restaurant specializing in Italian cuisine was later opened, but it too was shut down.
Today, the kibbutz members work primarily in agriculture, livestock, and poultry farming. Field crops include cotton, corn, wheat, tomatoes, and watermelons. Pomegranates and avocados are grown in orchards. Some residents also work outside the kibbutz in nearby industrial zones.
As of 2016, the kibbutz had a population of approximately 790 settlers.
