Urim Colony
October 1, 2025Be’eri is a colony and kibbutz in occupied Palestine, located in the northwestern Negev desert near the border with the Gaza Strip. It was established in 1946, and by 2006 its population had reached 774 settlers.
Originally, Be’eri was founded as a "kibbutz," a collective settlement based on full socialism in both production and consumption. It was one of 11 agricultural kibbutzim established in the northwestern Negev near the Gaza border before 1948. After 1948, the colony was moved to the southwestern Negev and grew into one of the wealthiest Israeli colonies in the region, with its population approaching 1,000 settlers.
On October 7, 2023, clashes broke out there between resistance fighters and Israeli forces that lasted until the evening. During the fighting, the resistance took 50 Israeli settlers hostage, and the colony witnessed a large number of dead and wounded in its streets.
