October 1, 2025Magen is a kibbutz in the northwestern Negev desert, in the district of Beersheba, east of Khan Younis. The Hebrew meaning of its name is "the Shield." It is considered one of the "Gaza Envelope" colonies, located only a few kilometers from the border of the Gaza Strip.
The kibbutz was established in August 1949 on the lands of the village of Sheikh Nuran, where the shrine of Sheikh Nuran still stands within the boundaries of the kibbutz. Its agricultural lands cover about 22,000 dunams. According to 2015 statistics, its population was 551 settlers, and it lies about 126 meters above sea level.
