November 3, 2025Nahal Oz is a settlement and kibbutz established in 1948 on the lands of the Palestinian village of Khirbat al-Waheidi. The kibbutz itself is an agricultural kibbutz founded in 1951. It is located less than one kilometer from the Gaza Strip, in the northern part of the Negev Desert, near the border with Gaza.
The site was previously the scene of a well-known raid by the Palestinian resistance. This location gained prominence during the Al-Aqsa Flood operation that took place on October 7, as it was one of the closest and among the first sites captured by the resistance. According to statistics, the settler population was 209 in 2006, increasing to 377 in 2015, and reaching 423 in 2019. This kibbutz is situated east of the Shuja’iyya neighborhood and was one of the main locations targeted by the resistance in their operations.
