November 4, 2025Sderot is the largest settlement in the Gaza Envelope area, located approximately 1.5 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. It was established in 1951 on the lands of the Palestinian village of Al-Najd, which was located north of the Gaza Strip before 1948. Since then, it has developed into a city inhabited by more than 19,000 settlers. By 2022, its population had grown to approximately 33,000 settlers.
On Saturday, July 10, 2023, the settlement was under the control of resistance fighters throughout the day. Hebrew media referred to the events as some of the “most difficult scenes,” alluding to the high number of settlers killed in its streets and the Israeli army’s inability to evacuate them.
