Tirat Carmel Colony
November 5, 2025Atlit is a settlement located in the Haifa region. It was established on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of Atlit in the Haifa district. From 1950 until the unification of local authorities in 2003, Atlit functioned as a local council with jurisdiction over an area of 14,000 dunums. The settlement was initially named “Atlit,” but the settlers, primarily farmers, later sought a Hebrew name.
Modern Atlit was founded in 1903 as a colony after Baron Rothschild purchased the lands of the area in 1899. As of 2024, the settlement’s population was approximately 11,279 settlers.
