Gan Hadarom
November 5, 2025Gan Yavne is an Israeli settlement located in the Central District, east of the city of Ashdod. It was established in 1931 as a moshava (agricultural village), and its local council was established in 1950. It was named Gan Yavne due to its proximity to the city of Yavne, although it does not border it.
Historically, orchards and farms covered about 80% of its lands. The village of Gan Yavne was founded in 1931 by the “Ahuzat Aleph” company, established by several Zionist families from Russia and Poland who had migrated to the United States. In 1930, the land was purchased, and plans were made to cultivate 400 dunams of orange orchards.
Following negotiations with the British Mandate government between 1936 and 1938, a road was built to Gan Yavne, which was designed as a garden city.
As of 2017, its population exceeded 23,000 settlers, rising to 24,574 settlers by 2022.
Gan Yavne includes 38 kindergartens, five public elementary schools (Ibn Gurion, Makabim, Ilan Ramon, Ehud Manor, and Novim Moladit), one public religious elementary school (Sinai), and two middle/high schools (Ort Yitzhak Rabin and Ort Naomi Shemer).
The settlement contains a community center, a library, a senior citizens’ center, sports halls, sports fields, and a rural club.
Gan Yavne has also hosted several youth movements, including Hebrew Scouts (Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed), Bnei Akiva, Rotary Interact, Hanoar HaTzioni, and many others.
