November 5, 2025Hadera is a settlement located in the Haifa region, approximately 45 kilometers (28 miles) from the city of Haifa. It was established on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of Arab al-Fuqara, in the Haifa district. The settlement extends for about 7 kilometers (5 miles) along the Mediterranean coastal plain.
Hadera has a high proportion of immigrants who arrived after 1990, particularly from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union. As of 2022, the settlement’s population was 103,041 settlers.
Hadera was originally established in 1891 as an agricultural colony by members of the Zionist group Hovevei Zion from Lithuania and Latvia. By 1948, it had become a regional center with a settler population of 11,800. In 1952, Hadera was officially declared a city with jurisdiction over an area of 53,000 dunums.
