November 5, 2025Kiryat Haim is a neighborhood in the city of Haifa and is considered part of the Krayot cluster in the northern part of the Haifa metropolitan area. In 2008, its population was just under 27,000 settlers. Kiryat Haim lies within the municipal boundaries of Haifa city on the Mediterranean coast.
Settlers from Kibbutz Kfar Masaryk moved there. This group was originally formed in Petah Tikva in 1932 and was initially known as “Czechoslovakia Lita,” as its members came from Czechoslovakia and Lithuania. They first relocated to Bat Galim in 1933, then to the sand dunes in Kiryat Haim west of the railway. The kibbutz cultivated vegetables and established the Ayan farm. At this stage, it was given a new name, Mishmar Zevulun (Guardian of the Zevulun Valley).
Kiryat Haim was named after Haim Arlosoroff. It developed independently as a temporary refugee camp and later as a separate town. In 1950, it was incorporated into Haifa as a subordinate district.
Kiryat Haim absorbed large numbers of immigrants from the former Soviet Union who arrived in the 1990s. The suburb also includes a significant population of Ethiopian Jews.
