Mikhmoret Colony

Mikhmoret is a moshav located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It was established in 1945 by demobilized soldiers from the British Army, and was named “Mikhmoret” (from the Hebrew word for “nets”) in reference to the profession of many of its founders, who were fishermen.

The moshav later expanded to include lands belonging to the depopulated Palestinian village of Arab al-Nufay’at, whose residents were forcibly expelled under an order issued by the Haganah on April 10, 1948.

In 2012, Mikhmoret Beach was ranked as one of the best beaches in what is referred to as “Israel.”

The Israel Nature and Parks Authority established a Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in the moshav. As of 2022, the moshav had a population of 1,506 settlers.
