Neve Shalom Colony
January 23, 2026Netzer Sereni is a kibbutz located in the central region of the occupied Palestinian territories. It was established in 1948 by Holocaust survivors who had been liberated from the Buchenwald concentration camp. In 1945, they organized themselves under the name “Kibbutz Buchenwald,” an agricultural collective aimed at preparing Zionist Jews for life in Palestine—the first hachshara group to be formed in Germany after the war.
The kibbutz was established on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of Bayt Salim. The name was later changed to “Netzer” by members of the Buchenwald group, and eventually to Netzer Sereni, in honor of Enzo Sereni—an Italian intellectual, Zionist leader, and military officer. As of 2021, the number of settlers residing there was 945.
