Sha’alvim is a religious kibbutz located in the center of Mandatory Palestine, near the Modiin Maccabim Reut settlement. The kibbutz was founded on August 13, 1951, by a group from Nahal affiliated with the Ezra Movement. It was established on the land of the depopulated Palestinian village of Sulpit, in the Ramla district. The hill situated between the kibbutz and Nof Ayalon is known as Tel Sha’alvim. Until the Six-Day War, it was targeted by numerous militant attacks from the West Bank due to its proximity to the Green Line.
In 1961, a religious school, Yeshivat Sha’alvim, was established in the kibbutz, which later developed into a major regional religious educational institution.
As of 2022, the population of the settlement was 1,813 settlers.
