November 2, 2025Or HaNer is a kibbutz located in the southern part of the occupied Palestinian territories, near Sderot. It was established between 1955 and 1957 as a farm managed by the Yetzur/Bituch company. The founders were members of the Gordonia, Dror, and HeHalutz Zionist movements, the majority of whom were immigrants from Argentina and Chile. Many of them had originally lived in Kibbutz Givat Zaid.
The kibbutz was established on land that belonged to the depopulated Palestinian village of Najd, northeast of the village’s original site. A burial cave dating back to the 4th century CE was discovered at the location, along with a Greek funerary inscription.
In 2016, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas A. Shannon Jr. visited the kibbutz and toured the Ornit factory, which manufactures blind rivets. As of 2021, the population of the settlement was 809 settlers.
