Neve Yam Colony
November 5, 2025Habonim is a moshav located approximately 5 km south of Atlit and 3 km north of Kibbutz Nachsholim, established on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of Kafr Lam, in the Haifa district. As of 2022, the settlement had a population of 383 settlers.
The moshav was founded in 1949 by members of the Habonim movement, on land that belonged to the depopulated Arab village of Kafr Lam. The first settlers were Jewish immigrants from the United Kingdom and South Africa.
The settlement gained national attention on June 11, 1985, due to the Habonim disaster, when a bus collided with a train, resulting in the deaths of 22 settlers, including 19 schoolchildren. A memorial was erected at the railway crossing where the incident occurred.
