November 5, 2025Neve Yam is a kibbutz located approximately twenty kilometers south of Haifa, established on the lands of the depopulated Palestinian village of Atlit, in the Haifa district. As of 2022, the settlement had a population of 235 settlers.
The kibbutz was founded in 1939 by members of the Gordonia Youth Movement and served as a base for the Palyam (the naval branch of the Haganah).
In recent years, the kibbutz has faced financial difficulties and has pursued a renewal project aimed at attracting twenty-seven families from the evacuated settlements of Elei Sinai, Dugit, and Nisanit in northern Gaza, who were displaced in 2005 as part of Israel’s unilateral disengagement plan. As part of the project, the evacuees were allocated land adjacent to the sea for permanent housing, offering a residential solution similar to their original homes.
