It was built in 1950 on land belonging to the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Walaja, southwest of Jerusalem by Yemeni Jews who migrated within
Operation Magic Carpet between 1949 and 1950. It also absorbed more immigrants from North Africa
The moshav faced shortages and poor security. In its early years, it experienced hunger, political disputes, water scarcity, clan conflicts, and the relocation of several families.
As of 2023, the colony had a population of 914 settlers.
